New
and Improved: It's Renegade Monkey Nuns
By Disco Stu - Editor in
Chief : Issue 4, Vol. II
Well, it's back.
After about four
months of absence (and ever-changing relaunch
dates), the site is finally up again. As you can
see there are a whole lot of new things about the
site. This editorial will hopefully answer some
of the questions you might have about what
happened to the old site and what you can expect
from the new one. Here goes...
What happened to
"Monitor Weekly?"
If you've been visiting the site since the
beginning (the first issue with Conan O'Brien on
the cover was released on June 14, 2000), the
first thing you'll notice about the site is the
name change. Originally, this site was called
"Monitor Weekly" rather than the much
catchier "Renegade Monkey Nuns." The
site ran about three issues but never lived up to
it's name. It was never "weekly" as I
hoped it would be, mostly because of laziness. I
can't really blame work or anything on it, since
I started the site at the beginning of summer.
After the third issue, I intended to put out a
fourth issue before the start of school. Soon,
however, it became apparent that I wasn't going
to be able to do that. All the articles had been
finalized and the images had been made, but again,
laziness set in. The articles quickly became
dated and wouldn't make any sense if I had put
them online. I also wasn't happy with the
sections that I had been using. It took forever
to update them and I had to write way too many
things per issue. The "weekly" aspect
of the site also put a ton of pressure on me to
put out an issue regularly. Eventually, I decided
to start over, redesign the site, put up new
features, and fix the bugs from the old site.
Basically, the site was starting to suck, so I
needed to make it fresh again.
Renegade Monkey Nuns? What
the f***?!
Once I decided to make a new site, I quickly
decided to have a new name. For obvious reasons,
"Monitor Weekly" wasn't going to work
out. I spent about a week trying to figure out a
good name that was catchy and stupid at
the same time. I asked my Senior Editor, Sideshow Rob, what the new site should
be called. We threw each other ideas: one was
"Obscenities Illustrated," "Monkeys
With Typewriters" (which is now what my
editorials section is called), among other things.
Eventually, Sideshow suggested "Renegade
Nuns." There was something about it that I
didn't like (lack of monkeys for example).
Eventually, he suggested "Renegade Monkey
Nuns"--after that, we knew we had a winner.
Now, you ask,
"What can I expect from Renegade Monkey Nuns?"
Well, unlike Monitor Weekly, you'll get regular
updates of the site. It may not be weekly, but I'll
try my best to have it updated every two weeks or
so. Also, there are lots of great features that
were carried over from the old site and new
features that I made for the new one. Expect a
lot of articles from me, Sideshow Rob, and RMN's
newest staffer, Duffman, in the future. Come back to the
site everyday, and I promise you'll have good
luck for the rest of your life. Just kidding. You're
an idiot.
