Small Screens for Big Movies
By Disco Stu - Editor in Chief : Issue 3, Vol. I

"I think I see a whale! No, nevermind, it's just your mom.""I heard it was a good movie."
I guess the best way to write an article like this is to use personal experience. I, Disco Stu, and two of my other friends planned to see the film The Perfect Storm because we had nothing else to do. We had all heard that it was a good movie, so we were a bit anxious to see it. Let me note before I continue that we were at Long Beach Island at the time, which is known for it's beaches, not for it's accommodating movie theatres.

Anyway, we got our tickets, and after doing nothing until the show started, we entered the theatre. My first reaction upon seeing the screening "room" was "What the--?!" It was more like a screening cubicle. Picture this: a hallway with carpeted walls and a movie screen. That was how big the damn thing was. After finally finding seats in the cramped room, I made a few comments like, "This is gonna be more like The Perfect Drizzle." Something stupid like that.

To make matters worse, the theatre collected donations for The Jimmy Fund right before showing the previews. Add to the fact that the donation collector was cute (and you know Disco Stu can't refuse a pretty face), I had to give my quarters.

With my guilt relieved for the rest of the evening, the previews began rolling. After showing some Keanu Reeves football flick, Kevin Bacon's Hollow Man, and Ford & Pfeiffer's What Dreams May Come, the feature finally began. It started innocently enough, but about 15 minutes into it, the projector became uncentered. That meant that the film didn't fit into the screen. Fortunately, some guy fixed it 10 minutes later and we were left to enjoy the movie. And it was enjoyable. The goodness of the movie didn't retract from the theatre. It was a cool looking movie.

But the theatre sucked big time. Well, at least the donation girl was cute.
