LOS
ANGELES, CA--Using his everyday good-looks, charming
personality, and decent acting skills, Derek D'Avrill
nabbed a small role as a doctor for the popular day
time soap opera, Days of Our Lives.
"Yeah,
I guess I pulled out my A-Game," reported
D'Avrill to his friends. "I showed 'em a
little De Niro, some Brando, and BAM! I'm the
new doctor in Days Of Our Lives."
His
friends, John Lawton and Sheila Mayberry, ignored
D'Avrill and simply rolled their eyes.
"He's
always like this when he gets a job," says
Lawton, a ticket broker. "Remember that
time he got that car commercial? You couldn't
even see his face, but he acted like he was friggin'
Jon Voight or somebody."
"I
know!" agreed Mayberry, an assistant curator at a
museum. "I bet he doesn't even have any
lines."
D'Avrill,
27, first caught the acting bug while still living in
New York City. Walking to work one day as a
waiter, he was asked to play "Pedestrian No.
2" during an NYPD Blue shooting.
With his resume filled, he headed to Los Angeles to
pursue a career in acting full time.
"That
NYPD Blue gig was big for me," says
D'Avrill. "Now, all the top agents and
producers want my number. But, I guess they're
intimidated by my presence because they haven't called
yet. BOO YAH!"
D'Avrill
has had a variety of acting jobs ranging from small
plays to television commercials. He starred in a
public service announcement about hemorrhoids, which
aired in the Los Angeles area. He also played
"Dead Man No. 4" in an episode of The
Sopranos, a role which D'Avrill hopes to reprise
in coming episodes.
"Me
and Jim [Gandolfini] really hit it off that hour I was
on the set," said D'Avrill. "He really
liked my work, especially when I improvised a bit when
I played that dead body. I was just supposed to
lie there, but, you know, I really lied
there. I think a few people got choked up on the
set when I pulled that off. Anyways, me and Jim
are like this (twists index and middle fingers
together)."
For
the record, Gandolfini has not talked to D'Avrill
since their time on the set.
D'Avrill
is sure his role as "Doctor in Background"
will launch him to mega stardom.
"I
think with this role, I'm really spreading my
wings. Sure, I don't have any lines, but you can
feel my presence on the camera. HIYO!"
