Every
year, the summer inevitably brings about a few things:
hot weather, fine women in skimpy clothing, and highly
anticipated summer films. The summer season usually
makes up a huge portion of the movie industry's
revenue, because most of the blockbuster films open
during this time. Unfortunately, some movies are meant
to fail because there is little to no buzz preceding
the film's opening. Those films don't make the list
here.
I
have researched many sources (the internet, magazines,
newspapers, television) in order to list the 10 most
anticipated movies of the summer. To find out which
films do make our list, make sure to come back
everyday since this article will be updated everyday.
We'll give a non-spoiler gist of the plot, info on the
films' source materials, info on the buzz about the
film, and predictions on how it'll do in the box
office. AND, there'll be a "Gene Shalit-'like"
review. Today, we bring you the seventh to
the sixth most anticipated movies of the summer.

SCOOP:
Vin
Diesel stars as former extreme sports athlete Xander
“XXX” Cage, notorious for his death defying public
stunts. Betting he can succeed where other
conventional spies have failed, Xander is recruited by
NSA Agent Gibbons to become a different kind of
undercover agent. Enlisted for a dangerous covert
mission, he must use all his extreme skills to combat
a clever, organized, and ruthless enemy far beyond the
scope of his experience.

attempts to capitalize on the current popularity of
extreme sports and takes most of its high-flying
stunts and action sequences from the that.
THE
BUZZ:
Hot
off the heels of hits The Fast and the Furious,
Boiler Room and Saving Pvt. Ryan, Vin
Diesel is on the verge of becoming a huge superstar. Those
other films were ensemble pieces, while this movie
will be Diesel's first true lead role. Will this be
his first huge break? Only time will tell.
THE
FINAL WORD:
It's
hard not to see this movie opening huge. After all, it
premieres relatively late in the summer (August 2), a
good deal after the openings of the "big"
movies of the season. Whether or not it'll do well in
the long run remains to be seen.
GENE
SHALIT'S EFFUSIVELY POSITIVE REVIEW:
Vin
Diesel is a superb action star in this equally superb
movie. If you ask me, this action-packed thriller is XxX-citing!

It's
been three years since Austin Powers, that swinging
international man of mystery, has had to face his arch
enemy, Dr. Evil. But after Dr. Evil and his accomplice
Mini-Me escape from a maximum-security prison, Austin
is called to action once more in this third
installment of the highly successful Austin Powers
movie franchise. Teaming up with the mysterious yet
peculiar Goldmember, Dr. Evil hatches a time-traveling
scheme to take over the world, one that involves the
kidnapping of Nigel Powers, Austin's beloved father
and England's most renowned spy. As he chases the
villains through time, Austin visits 1975 and joins
forces with his old flame, Foxxy Cleopatra, a
streetwise but stylish detective. Together Austin and
Foxxy must find a way to save Nigel and stop Dr. Evil
and Goldmember from their mischievous mayhem.

two ''Austin Powers'' movies and the James Bond
franchise are the sources for Mike Myers success. He
also injects a lot of influences from his parents who
happen to be British.
THE
BUZZ:
With
Destiny's Child hottie, Beyonce Knowles, and
Oscar-winning actor, Michael Caine, joining the cast,
Goldmember promises to be the best Austin Powers movie
ever. Austin is younger, more vibrant, and randier
than ever before (and with Knowles as his love
interest, who can blame him?). The story sounds very
promising and the appearance of Fat Bastard is sure to
get a lot of laughs. Prediction: Goldmember will be as
good or better than the first two Austin Powers
movies.
THE
FINAL WORD:
This
sequel should be a big hit. The Austin Powers
franchise is one of the most popular in the world and,
with the help of clever casting, it should attract a
new audience to the movies. It'll open big, but not as
big as, say, Star Wars or Spider-Man.
GENE
SHALIT'S EFFUSIVELY POSITIVE REVIEW:
Once
again, Mike Myers proves his comedic genius. Beyonce
Knowles and Michael Caine are wonderful co-stars. And
after seeing this film, I wanted to stroke my Goldmember
all night long!
